Always Fun
If you are too lazy to search our archives for what you are looking for, here are some “tried and true” always good, won’t let you down, standbys:
WHAT TO DO…
on a sunny day…go on a trail run or walk in Palo Duro Canyon up to the Lighthouse – you’ll swear your in the Grand Canyon • have a long lunch on the patio at Ruby Tequila’s or Joe Taco (margaritas mandatory) • play frisbee golf at John Stiff park – you may never see your frisbee again if it is a windy day but that is half the fun • pick up a boxed lunch at Village Bakery and head to the park
on a chilly day… stop by Roasters for a cup of hot chocolate • build a big fire in your fireplace and curl up with a good book • cozy up with a warm bowl of gumbo at Willie’s Bayou Grill • dig into a big bowl of queso at Taco’s Garcia • and after all that eating, get some exercise by going rock climbing indoors at ARCH • and if your kids are going stir crazy, take them to play lights off golf at the mall • warm up in the Bivins Tropical Conservatory at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens
with kiddos… watch the airplanes take off from the airport at the English Field Restaurant • feed the geese or fish at the pond at medi-park near the hospital • hike the trails at Wildcat Bluff (call first to make sure they are open) • go swimming and play at WT’s indoor pool • let Kabuki’s talented chefs feed and entertain the whole gang • visit the at the Amarillo Zoo • check out Hidden Falls Ranch – a great sumer camp for kiddos on the edge of the canyon • head to Blue Sky and split a burger and shake with your little one
if you’re going out…take in a great band at Golden Light • let BL Bistro serve you one of their cocktail creations • taste some groovy brews at 575 Pizzeria (and of course, eat some pie) • enjoy a romantic dinner at Macaroni Joe’s • post-dinner drinks and dancing on Polk Street • road trip to Boot Hill in Vega • and after all that party-ing, don’t miss the Saturday morning brunch at Crush (hangover + mimosa + steak eggs benedict = happiness)
for culture… check out the latest show at Amarillo Little Theater • enjoy a symphony concert at the Globe News Center, but only after a delicious dinner at OHMS • dance the two-step at Midnight Rodeo • get to know our local artists at Sunset Center during the First Fridays event • explore the American Quarter Horse Museum – fun for children, too • be wowed by the collection on display at AMoA (changes often) • head down to Canyon to take in some history at the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum
with houseguests…Cadillac Ranch • Palo Duro State Park • The Big Texan • Texas! The Musical in the Canyon (performances during the summer) • Historic Route 66, Wonderland and the Texas Tornado • shopping at Et Cetera and all the cute shops in Wolflin Village
to get out of town… catch a college football game in Norman, OK (4 hours) • sip on an afternoon beer at the Golden Bee in Colorado Springs (6 hours) • hit the slopes in Santa Fe (4 hours) • shop ‘til you drop at Northpark in Dallas (6 hours)
